Deadline #7 HW #1
Reading Reflection
Chapter 2 - Argument from the Heart-Pathos
Let me first define what Pathos is: A strategy in which a writer tries to generate specific emotions (such as fear, envy, anger or pity), in an audience to dispose it ti accept a claim. Everything an Argument pg.
So based on the definition of a Pathos I would want to either write or show my audience something that draws them in. Your trying to hit your audience soft spot "heart". All around us in life we see pathos from advertising commericals. Example: We've all seen the commerical feed the hungry kids, money for the poor sick kids in some other countries. Well in chapter 2 gives examples of how people different types of methods to play on other peoples emotions to draw them in to persuade them to be on their side of whatever issue, or cause.
Chapter 3 - Arguments based on Character-Ethos
Ethos: The self image a writer creates to define a relationship with readers in argument, most writers try to establish an ethos that suggests authority and creditability.
Everything an Argument pg.
Bottom line depending what point your trying to make, your source doesn't have to be an expert. Here a short example: If you want to put grass in your back. Would you ask your cousin who has his own business in landscaping, or a doctor. Well I would pick my cousin.
Well this also applies to your paper.Your source my have a PhD, or some other type of degree in what your topic is concerning. However some of your audience will have a hard time trusting someone who talks from book knowledge, when what really counts is hands on experience. However this goes 2 ways.

Your personal experience will be very useful when trying to appeal to the readers emotions. I hope that you can incorporate it into your paper!
